8 days Tangier to Marrakech desert trip - Itinerary
Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen
Your tour begins with a pick-up from Tangier. Travel through the scenic Rif Mountains toward the famous blue city of Chefchaouen. Spend the afternoon exploring the charming blue streets, local markets, and relaxing squares. Overnight stay in a traditional riad in Chefchaouen.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes
After breakfast, leave Chefchaouen and travel to the Roman ruins of Volubilis where you can explore well-preserved mosaics and ancient structures. Continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, to visit Bab Mansour and the historic medina before heading to Fes for an overnight stay in a riad.
Day 3: Guided Tour of Fes
Today you will explore the fascinating city of Fes with a local guide. Visit the ancient medina of Fes El Bali, the Al Quaraouiyine University, the famous leather tanneries, and the traditional souks. Discover the rich culture and history of Morocco’s oldest imperial city.
Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt
Depart from Fes and travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco, and visit the cedar forests near Azrou where Barbary monkeys live. Continue through the mountains to the town of Midelt where you will spend the night.
Day 5: Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
After breakfast, continue your journey through the beautiful Ziz Valley with its palm groves and dramatic landscapes. Arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara Desert where you can relax and prepare for your desert adventure.
Day 6: Merzouga – Camel Trek – Sahara Desert Camp
Spend the morning exploring the Merzouga desert area. In the afternoon, enjoy a camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi while watching a spectacular sunset. Arrive at your desert camp where you will enjoy dinner, traditional Berber music, and an unforgettable night under the starry sky.
Day 7: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake up early to admire the sunrise over the dunes before leaving the desert. Visit the traditional market in Rissani and continue to the spectacular Todra Gorge where you can walk between towering canyon walls. Later travel to the beautiful Dades Valley for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Dades Valley – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, travel through the Valley of Roses and visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass before arriving in Marrakech where your tour ends.
